Karigan Bonner, Cross Country

The Owls Athletic department has selected Karigan Bonner as the October 2017 Renasant Bank Athlete of the Month.

The senior nursing major enters her first season as a member of the Owls women's cross country team. During the month of September, Bonner led the Owls cross country team in every event with a personal record of 25.41.7 in 5K competition.

"Being selected as the athlete of the month for October is truly an honor," said Bonner after finding out she had been selected. " I never would have thought that I would be running cross country for the W my senior year of college. It has been such a blessing to be a part of a team that is like another family. I would like to thank our awesome coach, athletic director, and all of the other staff that have made this program possible. I am truly humbled by this experience and look forward to seeing what new and exciting things are in store for the cross country team and all of the other athletic programs.

Bonner is a native of Hamilton, Miss. She attended Columbus Christian Academy and was a member of the basketball, soccer, and track teams. She was the class of 2013 valedictorian and was a member of the National Honor Society.

Bonner is the daughter of Richard and Karen Johnston and the sister of Katherin Johnston.

She enjoys pasta, the movie "Remember the Titans', and the song "Body Like a Back Road" by Sam Hunt.
