  • Welcome to the Owls Danica
    Danica, a local 4-year old girl, was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor in July. This is a cancer of the kidney that is common to children. The tumor and kidney have been removed. Danica has completed radiation treatments and is now undergoing several months of chemotherapy. She and her parents are staying at Ronald McDonald House at St Jude’s for now. The W Athletic Department has adopted her as a member of the Owls and will be hosting several events at games to promote pediatric cancer to raise funds and awareness.   • Soccer Dominates Wesleyan College in First Victory, 3-0

    MACON, Ga. - The Owls women’s soccer team conquered their first victory of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 19. The Owls dominated the scoring effort to defeat the Lions by defeating 3-0.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. - The Owls men's soccer team played an intense game against Huntingdon College. Despite getting good field positions and defending aggressively at the right moment, The W fell 6-3 to Hawks on Wednesday, Sept. 19.
  • Volleyball Stalls at Tougaloo, 0-3

    TOUGALOO, Miss. – Mid-season fatigue is beginning to settle into the Owls volleyball team. The W did well statistically during the University of Dallas Volleyball Tournament but struggled during a Tuesday match against Tougaloo College. The Owls were unable to get their game going and fell 0-3 (2-25, 9-25, 13-25) to the Bulldogs on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
  • Owls Golf Finishes 5th at the LC Invite

    ALEXANDRIA, La. – The W men’s golf team traveled to Alexandria, La. this week to participate in its first tournament of the inaugural season. The Owls first tournament was the Louisiana College Fall Invite hosted by Louisiana College at the Links on the Bayou. As a team, the Owls shot a two-round total of 633, which earned them a fifth place team finish. The W posted five strokes better than the host school and 37 strokes over tournament winner LeTourneau University.
  • The Owls Will Bring the Game Home Against Huntingdon

    COLUMBUS, Miss – After being on the road, the Owls men’s soccer will host Huntingdon College on Wednesday, Sept. 19. The 2-3-0 Owls will seek a win as they compete against the 0-5-0 Hawks in front of their fans at the Columbus Soccer Complex.
  • Men's Soccer Struggles Against Rhodes College, 11-0

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Mississippi University for Women men's soccer team fell, 11-0, against Rhodes College on Sunday afternoon after conquering a win against Hendrix College on Friday. The Owls fall to 2-3-0 overall, while the Lynx improve to 4-2-0.

    MACON, Ga. – The Owls women's soccer team will be back on the road for midweek action as they travel to Macon, Ga. to face Wesleyan College. The Owls (0-6-0) will face the Wolves (0-4-1), a NCAA Division III institution, on Wednesday, Sept. 19.

    DALLAS, Tex. – The Owls volleyball team moves to 1-12 on the season after Saturday’s loss to Randall University. The W took on the Saints in the last match of the University of Dallas Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 15. The Owls played well offensive but created points for their opponent through errors to take the loss in four sets; 22-25, 24-26, 25-16, 17-25.
  • Women's Soccer Fell Short at Valley

    ITTA BENA, Miss. – The Owls women’s soccer team believed in putting up a great fight and they did. Though there was a great fight, the Owls came up short with a loss of 0-3 against Mississippi Valley State.

    Memphis, Tenn. – The Owls men’s soccer team prepared well for its match-up against Hendrix College on Friday, Sept. 14. The W put up a tremendous effort on the field and was rewarded with a 2-1 victory over the Warriors to improve its season record to 2-2-0.

    DALLAS, Tex. – The Owls volleyball split day one of the University of Dallas Volleyball Tournament. The W gained its first win of the season by defeated Southwestern Adventist University, 3-0. In the Owls second match of the day, they played well but struggled to score points, falling 0-3 to the University of Dallas.

    MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Saturday, Sept. 15, the men’s and women’s cross country teams will be running at Shelby Farms Park in the Rhodes Invitational.  The men’s team will run an 8k and the women will run a 6k.

    SEWANEE, Tenn. – On Thursday, Sept. 12, The W volleyball team (0-10) faced off against Sewanee: The University of the South (9-1), a promising team currently ranked second in the Southern Athletic Conference. After playing against Covenant College Wednesday, the Owls adjusted their game plan in hopes to best their out-of-state foe. The W, still laying the ground work for the season, was unsuccessful in its attempt, dropping the match in three sets; 5-25, 13-25, 18-25.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls women’s soccer team used all efforts to defend against Millsaps. The team played extremely hard and kept the match tight, but despite the efforts of today’s match the Owls came up short. With the loss of 1-0.
  • Lewis Scores Goal in Military Appreciation Night Match

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men’s soccer team played an intense two halves against in-state rival Millsaps College on Tuesday, Sept. 11. The battle for goals became so great that seven yellow cards and one red card was given out during the competition. The Owls put up a major effort during the match but late goals by Millsaps prevented a comeback for a 4-1 defeat.

  • Volleyball Sees Improvement in Day Two of Huntingdon Tournament

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team saw improvements physically and statistically but it was not enough to pick up a victory at the Huntingdon Volleyball Tournament. In day two, the Owls competed against Tuskegee University and North Carolina Wesleyan University to come up empty in both matches. The W fell 0-3 to Tuskegee and 0-3 to NCW.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The W women’s soccer team will return to its home field when they take on LeTourneau University, a NCAA Division III competitor, on Saturday, Sept. 8. Coming off a road loss against Huntingdon College earlier in the week, the Owls enter Saturday’s match 0-3 on the season while the Yellowjackets are undefeated with a 3-0 record.
  • Mary Grace Prine- September Renasant Athlete of the Month

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls Athletics staff has selected Mary Grace Prine as the Renasant Bank Athlete of the Month for September 2018. Mary Grace is a sophomore outside and right side hitter who has transitioned to the setter position as of last week. Prine was recognized as USCAA setter of the week and contributed 27 assists in our opening weekend at Belhaven. She was named to the 2017-18 Athletic Director's List for both the fall and spring semester and ended her freshman year with a 3.64 GPA. In her time off the court, she has participated in numerous community service efforts by our volleyball team and volunteers her time as the handler for The W’s beloved mascot Ody the Owl. She is a pre-physical therapy major who hopes to one day work with the Wounded Warrior Project.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team will return to action this weekend when they travel to Montgomery, Ala. to participate in the 2018 Huntingdon Volleyball Tournament. Beginning on Friday, Sept. 7 – Saturday, Sept. 8, the Owls will face Huntingdon College, Agnes Scott College, Tuskegee University, and North Carolina Wesleyan College.
