  • Women's Basketball Suffers First Loss of the Season at Rust

    HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Owls women’s basketball takes first loss of the season at Rust College on Thursday, Nov. 15. The W played hard but was unable to overcome a streak of unforced turnovers and missed layups to fall 94-58 against the Bearcats. With the loss, the Owls move to 3-1 on the season but will hopefully retain their No. 1 spot in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Standings.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – In a thrilling high energy game against Talladega College, sophomore guard Shon Wright led the Owls men’s basketball team with a game high of 17 points. In the midweek match-up, the Shaw, Miss. native hit 5 of 12 from the field with three 3-pointers while picking up all four of his foul shots.
  • 21 Athletes Named to the USCAA All-Academic Team

    NORFOLK, Va. – The United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) recently released the 2018 Fall All-Academic Teams. With GPAs greater than 3.5, 21 athletes of the Owls men’s soccer team, women’s soccer team, and volleyball team were honored for their efforts in the classroom.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – Junior forward Ill’yan Scott, Jr. scored a game high of 21 points in the Owls season opener versus Blue Mountain College on Monday, Nov. 12. Despite the effort The W was unable to capture the victory, falling 81-74.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls women’s basketball team improves to 3-0 on the season after defeating Blue Mountain College 61-36 on its home court on Monday, Nov. 12. Junior center Qiayon Bailey recorded her second double-double of the season with 14 points and 16 rebounds while junior guard Rokila Wallace led the Owls scoring effort with 17 points off the bench.

    DENVER, Colo. – Junior guard Rokila Wallace led the Owls offense with 19 points off the bench to aid the Owls women’s basketball team in its 85-74 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday, Nov. 10. With the Saturday’s game behind them, The W moves to 2-0 to open its comeback season.
  • Women's Basketball Returns to the Court in 76-42 Victory Over Johnson and Wales

    DENVER, Colo. – The Owls women’s basketball team played its first official game in 16 years on the road at Johnson and Wales University. The W returned to the court with a 76-42 victory over the Wildcats on Friday, Nov. 9 to start its comeback season 1-0.

    VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The USCAA has announced its All-American, National All-Academic, and individual End of the Year award winners for women's soccer division 1 and 2. Four Owls women's soccer players were named to All-American teams.

    The Owls women's basketball team will travel to Denver, Colo. to participate in the Johnson and Wales Tournament. The W will take on Johnson and Wales on Friday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. CDT/ 5 p.m. MDT and Nebraska Wesleyan at 4 p.m. CDT / 3 p.m. MDT.   • Tougaloo Holds Off Owls in Exhibition Play, 94-65

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men’s basketball team fell short in its first outing during its inaugural season on the court. The W took on Tougaloo College in an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 3 but struggled to make the grade against the NAIA opponent to fall 94-65 in its first offering.
  • Volleyball Closes Season with Senior and Faculty/Staff Day

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls women’s volleyball team honored senior Savannah Thomas and MUW Faculty and Staff during its final match of the 2018 season. In front of a home crowd, The W took on Lane College for the second time this year. In the first outing, the Owls defeated the Dragons 3-0 on the road but was unable to repeat the feat in Saturday’s match. The W fell 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 17-25) on Saturday, Nov. 3 to close the season 5-22.

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The W women’s basketball team prepared for its return to the court after a 16-year hiatus with an exhibition match against Philander Smith College on Thursday, Nov. 1. The Owls did what they could against an already established team but was unable to get passed the Panthers defense in the 58-80 loss.

    MARION, Ala. – The Owls women’s soccer team concluded the 2018 season with a 3-0 win over USCAA-sister institution Judson College. The W played an aggressive offensive and held a great defensive front to close its inaugural season on a high note and finish the year 5-11-0 overall.

    JACKSON, Tenn. – The Owls volleyball team defeated Lane College in a three set decision, 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, on Monday, Oct. 23 in J.F. Lane Gymnasium. With the victory, The W improves to 4-19 on the season while the Dragons fall to 4-22.

    Pensacola, Fla. – The Owls men's soccer team defeated beyond efforts in the match against Pensacola Christian on Saturday, Oct. 20 in Pensacola, Fla. The Owls presented a victory against the Eagles, 2-0 improving its season record to 4-9-1.

    SMITH STATION, Ala. – The Owls men’s cross country team traveled to Smith Station, Ala. to compete in the 15th Annual Cougar Classic Cross Country Meet hosted by Columbus State University. The W participated in an early morning 8k to place fourth in the competition.

    COLUMBUS, Miss. – It was a big evening for The W women’s volleyball team as they recorded its first home victory of the 2018 season against USCAA-sister institution Judson College. The Owls defeated the Eagles in four sets (25-18, 25-20, 22-25, 25-3) inside Pohl Gymnasium for its third W of the 2018 season. With the victory, the Owls improve to 3-19 on the season while Judson falls to 1-8.

    SHREVEPORT, La. – The Owls men’s soccer team grabbed an early lead against the Gents of Centenary College, scoring the first goal of match. After half time, The W was unable to keep up the momentum going to allow three goals in the second. The Owls dropped the match 3-1 to the Gents on Saturday, Oct. 13.

    SHREVEPORT, La. - The Owls traveled to Shreveport, La. to take on the Ladies of Centenary College on Saturday, Oct. 13. Each team was able to score a goal before the game was called due to rain. 
  • Owls Cross Country Closes Season at MC Invitational

    CLINTON, Miss. - The Owls men’s and women’s cross country team competed in the Mississippi College Invitational on October 13.  The men ran an 8k and the women ran a 6k. 
  • Welcome to the Owls Danica
    Danica, a local 4-year old girl, was diagnosed with a Wilms tumor in July. This is a cancer of the kidney that is common to children. The tumor and kidney have been removed. Danica has completed radiation treatments and is now undergoing several months of chemotherapy. She and her parents are staying at Ronald McDonald House at St Jude’s for now. The W Athletic Department has adopted her as a member of the Owls and will be hosting several events at games to promote pediatric cancer to raise funds and awareness.   • Jabari Williams Named October's Renasant Athlete of the Month
