COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Mississippi University for Women's' baseball team will take on Lane College on Sunday, March 3 at the Columbus High School Baseball Field. The Owls enter Sunday's competition 5-3 on the season and undefeated at home, while the Dragons are 0-8.
With wins over Crowley's Ridge and Rust College, The W is on a five-game winning streak and looks to continue the streak on Sunday. In eight games, the Owls have recorded 62 runs and maintained a .319 batting average, a .464 on base percentage, and a .412 slugging percentage.
At the plate, Will Peters, freshman utility player, leads the Owls with a .474 batting average. The Tallassee, Ala. native has played in seven games with 19 at-bats, five runs (one double), and three RBIs for a .583 on base percentage and a .526 slugging percentage. The part-time pitcher also leads the Owls pitching staff in strikeouts with 15, recording 11 in one game.
Prince Tolbert, junior outfielder, leads the team in RBIs with 7. Playing in eight games, the Selma, Ala. has tallied six hits (two doubles and two triples) and maintains a .353 on base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage.
On the mound, freshman pitcher Drew Williams leads the Owls bullpen with a 2-1 record. The Maylene, Ala. native has pitched two complete games and 20.0 innings for 17 hits against, eight earned runs, and a 3.60 ERA.
