COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls baseball team will travel to Sewanee, Tenn. to take on Sewanee: The University of the South in a three-game series. The Owls, now 9-3, look to continue their nine-game winning streak as they face the 1-12 Tigers on Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10 at Montgomery Field located on the Sewanee's campus.
Peters, a Tallassee, Ala. native, ties with Benefield for the best batting average in The W line-up with a .429 average. The part-time pitcher has played in 11 of the 12 games for 35 at-bats, eight runs, 15 hits (one double), a .512 on-base percentage, and a .457 slugging percentage.
Benefield, a Ranburne, Ala. native, has played in nine games for 21 at-bats, seven runs, nine hits (three doubles and one homerun) for a .600 on-base percentage and a .714 slugging percentage.
On the mound, Drew Williams leads the Owls pitching staff with a 3-1 record and a 2.33 ERA. The freshman right-hander has made four appearances with three complete games and 27.0 innings pitched. He has recorded 14 strikeouts, 23 hits-against, and seven earned runs.
Peters also aids in the pitching effort with three appearances for a 2-1 record. The utility player has pitched one complete game and 14.2 innings for 21 strikeouts, six earned runs, and a 3.68 ERA.
As a team, the Owls have recorded 99 runs (two homeruns) and have maintained a .302 batting average, a .451 on-base percentage, and a .391 slugging percentage.
Sewanee has played in 13 games so far this season for 47 runs (one home run) and has maintained an overall .242 batting average, a .314 on-base percentage, and a .315 slugging percentage.
