Baseball Travels to Tougaloo

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The No. 4 ranked Owls baseball team will travel to Tougaloo, Miss. on Sunday, April 8 to take on the Tougaloo College Bulldogs. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, April 7 but has been moved due to weather. 

The Owls baseball team enters Saturday's competition 16-9 after back-to-back victories over Rust College earlier in the week. In 25 games, The W has recorded 200 runs and maintained a .309 batting average, a .432 on base percentage, and a .405 slugging percentage.

At the plate, Owls Renasant Athlete of the Month Damain Benefield leads The W offense. The freshman infielder totes a .435 batting average, a .534 on base percentage, and a .790 slugging percentage. In 21 games, Benefield has tallied 62 at-bats, 19 runs, and 27 hits (seven doubles and five homeruns) for 25 RBIs.

On the mound, starting pitching duties are divided among Drew Williams and Will Peters. Williams is 5-3 on the season with eight appearances and eight starts. In 51.1 inning pitched, the freshman right-hander has recorded five complete games and 33 strikeouts while holding a 4.38 ERA.

Peters holds a 5-2 record with eight appearances, seven starts, and two complete games. The Tallassee, Ala. native has pitched 35.1 innings for 30 strikeouts.

Tougaloo is currently 13-16 on the season. The last time the two teams met, the Owls were able to sweep the doubleheader, 11-6 and 8-6.

The doubleheader match-up is set for 1 p.m. at the Bulldog Baseball Field located on the campus of Tougaloo College.
