POWELL, Tenn. - The MUW soccer team made light work of the Crown College of the Bible on Friday, Oct. 6. The Owls dominated the scoring effort to defeat the Crown, 5-1 and improve on the season 3-7-1.
Paxton Bounds, junior forward, achieved a hat trick plus one to lead the Owls offensive effort. The Pearl, Miss. native scored the first goal of the game one minute in with the help of Josh Martin to put The W on the board early in the game.
The Crown answered the Owls goal nine minutes later with a goal of its own to tie the game 1-1.
At the 15th and 24th minute mark, Bounds scored his second and third goals of the game with assists from Jonathan Lopez to regain the lead for the Owls and put the score at 3-1. He pushed forward and scored a fourth goal with help from Jacob Johnson.
Still in the first half of the game, 35 minutes in, Johnson scored the fifth and final goal for the Owls assisted by Lopez to end the scoring effort to place the final score at 5-1.
Selvin Lopez, playing all 90 minutes, collected his first win of the season in front of the goal with five saves and one goal allowed.
"Our men had a great start in today's match with a goal in the opening minute,"said head coach Tim Gould. "Crown tied the match minutes later, but we did a nice job of reagaining the momentum with some quality finishing. We did a nice job in the second half keeping some possesions and creating opportuinites in different ways. Hopefully, we can carry our momentum into tomorrow's match against Johnson."
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 7 when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to take on Johnson University. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
