COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls men's soccer team prepared well for its match at home against Hendrix College on Sunday, Sept. 30. The W defeated the Warrirors with tremendous effort on the field and ended the match with a 2-1 victory over Hendrix to improve its season record to 4-6-0.
The Owls gained an advantage offensively with two goals scored in the second hallf. Joshua Frankenstein, sophomore forward, scored the Owls first goal with just 17:34 into the half off a free kick. The second goal was scored 15 minutes later by Andres Martinez to give the Owls a 2-1 lead.
"Hendrix came in well organized and made us pay with a quality build up and finish in the opening half. Our energy was much improved in the second half and we had a big lift from our defenders getting forward into the attack creating and finishing both of our goals," stated Head Coach Tim Gould. "We will need to build upon our second half as we travel to face another tough SAA opponent on Tuesday when we visit Sewanee"
John McGee, sophomore keeper from Troy, Ill., was credited with the Owls victory. McGee played the entire game with four saves and one allowed.
The Owls will be on the road on Tuesday, Oct. 2 when they take on Sewanee. Kick-off is set for 5 p.m.
