Softball Plays Hard but Falls to William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Mississippi University for Women's softball team was unable to come up with a win against the William Carey University. The Owls battled hard against the Crusaders, a program ranked eighth nationally in the NAIA, but fell 7-3 in game one and 7-0 in game two.

GAME ONE (L, 7-3)

A big second inning, resulted in the loss for the Owls. Both teams went scoreless in inning one but a series of hits in the bottom of the second allowed William Carey to gain a 6-0 lead over The W.

The Owls scored their first run in the top of the fourth. Carolyn "Kendall" Wilkinson tripled to right field to allow Kristen Martin to score.

The Crusaders answered the Owls run in the bottom of the fifth with a run of their own to advance their lead to 7-1.

The Owls kept battling and was able to put two more runs on the board in the top of the seventh. Kandler Flora singled up the middle then advanced to second on a throw. Flora was credited with two RBIs on the play with Bailee Watts and Wilkinson making it across home plate.

Wilkinson led the Owls at the plate with a 1-for-2 appearance with one run and one RBI. Kandler Flora led the team in RBIs with two and Brianna Duquette led in hits with two hits on two at-bats.

GAME TWO (L, 7-0)

In game two, the Owls were unable to make it to the scoreboard but delivered three hits agaisnt the Crusaders defense.

Kristen Martin, Brianna Duquette, and Bailey Johnston were all credited with single hits on the game.

The Owls will have a week of rest from games before taking the road to South Carolina. The softball team will spend spring break taking on Converse, South Wesleyan, and Piedmont.
