CENTRAL, S.C. – The Owls softball team will have a long week on the road when they travel to South Carolina and Georgia to play eight games in four days on Monday, March 12 – Thursday, March 15. The W will take on South Wesleyan University in doubleheader action on Monday, Converse College in a four game series on Tuesday and Wednesday, and conclude their week on Thursday in a doubleheader at Piedmont College.
The Owls are 7-7 on the season with 91 runs scored. The W has maintained a .297 batting average, a .384 on base percentage, and a .379 slugging percentage while facing some of the best programs in NCAA DIII and NAIA softball.
Junior outfielder Anna Lloyd leads her team at the plate with a .362 batting average, a .474 on base percentage, and a .362 slugging percentage. Playing and starting in all 14 games, Lloyd has tallied 47 at-bats, 13 runs, 17 hits, and five RBIs.
Junior infielder Carolyn "Kendall" Wilkinson leads the team in RBIs with 15. Also playing and starting in all 14 games, Wilkinson has recorded 42 at-bats, eight runs, 13 hits (four doubles and one triple) for a .310 batting average, a .362 on base percentage, and a .452 slugging percentage.
On the mound, the Owls go-to pitchers are Madison Scoggin and Cara Hopper. Scoggin, a junior from Bay Springs, Miss., holds a 3-3 record on seven appearances and starts for three complete games and 31.1 innings pitched. During her time on the mound, she has record 34 hits against, 19 runs (seven earned), and 14 strikeouts for a 1.56 earned run average.
Hopper has made eight appearances with six starts for a 2-4 record. The senior Steens, Miss. native has recorded two complete games and 28.1 innings pitched for 34 hits against, 26 runs (19 earned), and 13 strikeouts.
