Owls Softball to Take on Rust College

COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls softball team will take on Rust College on Saturday, March 31. The W,15-13, are searching for a Military Appreciation Game victory over the 0-9 Bearcats.

The Owls will look to juniors Katlyn Duke and Carolyn "Kendall" Wilkinson to lead the Owls offense. Duke and Wilkinson have tallied 25 RBIs each this season to lead the team and the USCAA in the category. At the plate, Coward, S.C. native Heidi Matthews leads the team with a .393 batting average.

On the mound, starting pitchers Madison Scoggin and Cara Hopper control The W defense. Scoggin, a Bay Springs, Miss. native, has made 17 appearances for 13 starts. She holds a 5-6 record with one save and six complete games. She has pitched 67.0 innings for 35 strikeouts and a 2.93 earned runs average.

Hopper, the Owls only senior, has appeared in 15 games for 11 starts, one save, and three complete games. The Steens, Miss. native has pitched 57.2 innings for 39 strikeouts and a 4.13 earned run average.

The first pitch for the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Don Usher Field located on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women. Come out and support the Owls softball team as they finish the last leg of the 2018 season.
