DUBOIS, Penn. – Senior pitcher Cara Hopper showed her experience and skill on the mound to deliver 11 strikeouts with one hit-against in the Owls 7-0 victory over Penn State – Beaver in game one of the USCAA Small College World Series. The Steen, Miss. native pitched the best seven innings of her career to improve to 7-6 on the season.
At the plate, the Owls hitters made smart decisions to move The W's offense. Junior catcher Brianna Duquette led the Owls offense with three hits on three at-bats for one run and one RBI. Owls Female Athlete of the Year Katlyn Duke recorded a game high of two RBIs on a 2-for-4 appearance while Anna Lloyd and Kristen Martin led the team with two runs each.
"The entire line-up showed up to play," said Head Coach Tatjana Matthews. "It all started with Cara Hopper on the mound. She threw 11 strikeouts in the Owls first World Series appearance. They were not going to be outdone by anybody today and I am as proud as I can be with these ladies."
The Owls will be back in action on Monday, May 14 when they take on No. 2 seed St. Mary of the Woods at 6 p.m. EST/ 5 p.m. CST. Watch the game live: HERE.
