Owls Women's Soccer Announces Inaugural Team

Columbus, Miss. – The 2018-19 academic year adds Owls women's soccer to The W Athletics Department offerings. Headed by veteran junior college coach Gray Massey, the first class of Owls women's soccer players bring experience and scholarship to its new positions at the Mississippi University for Women.

"I am excited about this upcoming year especially with it being the first year of Women's Soccer at the W," said Massey "I feel we were able to land a great mixture of women from freshman to seniors with junior college transfers coming in.  This year will help set the precedent for years to come."

Ahead of many women's soccer programs at Mississippi colleges and universities, 90 percent of the Owls inaugural class is made of Mississippi natives while the other 10 percent hails from Louisiana and Oklahoma. Other programs in the state only have as much as 30 percent of their athletes from Mississippi. The Owls bring in one goalkeeper, 10 midfielders, five forwards, and seven defenders.
