Volleyball Off to Slow Start at Blues Invite

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Mississippi University for Women volleyball team drops its first match at the 2017 Blues Invite at Rhodes College on Friday, Oct. 27. In match one, the Owls competed well against Louisiana College but they were unable to outlast the Wildcats falling 3-1 (15-25, 23-25, 25-23, 16-25) after forcing a fourth set by winning the third.

"Unfortunately, we were unable to push through some of our own mental errors and pull out the win," said head coach Roxanne Hernandez. "We struggled with serve receive and struggled defensivley, which ended in a win for Louisiana College."

Tori Weir, freshman middle blocker, led The W offensively with 12 kills on 24 total attacks and Madison Lamon, freshman setter, led the Owls defense with 17 digs. Lamon also led the team in assist with 30.

As a team, the Owls recorded 40 kills on 126 attacks, 37 assists, 10 service aces, and 66 digs for 52.0 points. The W tied Louisiana in digs and recorded one less servcie ace. Haley McMurphey led the Owls in aces, recording 6 of The W's 10. 

The Owls will be back on the court on Saturday, Oct. 28 when they take on Rhodes College in their second match of the tournament. The first serve is scheduled for noon.  Follow the live stats and livestream and live stats for each match: HERE.
