CLINTON, Miss. - Saturday, Oct. 6, the women's cross country team competed in the Mississippi College Watson Ford Invitational. The Owls competed against several NCAA DI and DII including Troy University, Tarleton State, Mississippi College, Jackson State, Mississippi Valley State, Southern University, Alabama A&M, and the University of Louisiana – Monroe. They also ran against DIII foe Belhaven University.
The women's team came in 10th place in the invitational. Tiffany Phillips led the pack for MUW, being the first Owl to cross the finish line with a time of 31:20.60.
"It was a preparation meet to get ready for our next meet in Clinton on the 13th. We had PRs and the girls raced hard," said Coach Turnipseed.
Coach Turnipseed saw many improvements in the runners this meet. "I saw a lot of improvements: better strides lengths, running focused, and an attitude of competing. I was proud of how many of our runners closed the gap with the athletes in front of them and got ahead for a better time. We're competing stronger, and I'm looking forward to seeing our men and women run next week and expecting to see even more PR's."
The Owls will compete their final meet of the season when they head back to Choctaw Trails to participate in the Mississippi College Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13. The last race of season will be a 5k set for 9 a.m.
