Men's Basketball Stumbles at SUNO

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Tavonta Jones hit 19 points, Tyler Jackson scored 11, and Tre Pinkston added 10 but it was not enough to defeat Southern University of New Orleans Saturday evening. The Owls fell 61-59 on the road.

Sophomore guard Quin Williams pulled down a team-high 10 rebound while JaQuan Hines recorded a game-high six blocks in the effort.

As a team, the Owls went 24-for-66 (36.4 percent) from the floor, including 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) in three-point range. The Knights made 25 of 69 (36.2 percent) from the floor and 3 of 15 (20.0 percent) from behind the arc. At the line, The W made 8 of 12 while SUNO landed 8 of 15.

The Owls outrebounded SUNO 45-47 and scored more second-chance points 16-8. The Knights handled the ball better with only 11 turnovers while forcing 17. Off the miscues, SUNO scored 18 points while holding the Owls to 8.

The Owls return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 17 when they travel to Belhaven University. Tipoff is set for 5 PM CT.
