Box Score COLUMBUS, Miss. – Keith Harris broke his career-high for the second time this season, putting up 33 points against Talladega College Saturday afternoon in Emma 'Ody' Pohl Gymnasium. Despite the offensive effort, it was not enough to keep the Owls in the game and The W men's basketball team fell 78-57 versus the Tornadoes.
Tyler Jackson was the only other Owl in the double-figures during Saturday's competition. The New Orleans, La. native scored 12 points with a team-high seven rebounds.
Harris, a senior guard, also played well defensively. He was credited with five steals, one block, and three rebounds.
The W (2-6) struggled from the field for most of the game. The Owls hit just 18 of 56 (32.1 percent) overall and only six of 26 (23.1 percent) from behind the arc. At the free-throw line, The W hit 15 of 22 (68.2 percent) with Harris making 13 of his 14 attempts.
Talladega (11-2) had better luck on the floor, shooting 44.4 percent (28 of 63) from the field including 9-of 17 (52.9 percent) from beyond the arc. The Tornadoes performed only slightly better than the Owls at the free-throw line sinking 13 of 19 (68.4 percent).
Both teams struggled with turnovers. Talladega suffered 20 to the Owls 18. The W benefited more from its opponent's miscues, scoring 25 points off of turnovers while holding the Tornadoes to 17.
In the paint, Talladega outscored The W 30-20 and came up better on second-chance points, 17-7. The Tornadoes also pulled down more boards than the Owls with 48 rebounds to The W's 33.
The W men's basketball team will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 10 when it hosts Voorhees College. The doubleheader event will begin with the women's game at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game will begin immediately after.
