COLUMBUS, Miss. – Both the women's and men's tennis teams for the Mississippi University for Women came up short at home on Wednesday morning versus Belhaven University. The Owls' squads both lost by identical 8-0 scores to their respective Blazers' foes at the Garrett Tennis Courts.
The Owls found it tough going on the men's side, as Belhaven did not lose a point to The W. Competing for the Owls in doubles were:
Sam Yarborough and Luis Leal Jr. at No. 1; Victor Gomez and Allen Lewis at No. 2, and;
Kory Scales and Zavier Minor at No. 3.
In singles, The W's lineup at Nos. 1-5 respectively, was: Yarborough, Leal, Scales, Lewis and Gomez. No. 6 was not contested.
In the women's competition, at No. 1 doubles,
Emma Potter and
Maggie Taylor lost, 8-1, while
Nicole Rensink and
Karina Garcia were topped at No. 2 pairs, 8-4.
Mandy Ferguson and
Terraline Green fell, 8-2, at No. 3 doubles.
Potter and
Sarah Kackley lost at Nos. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
Karen Calzadilla's match at third singles went unfinished with her trailing by a tight 6-5 score in set one.
At No. 4 singles, The W's Mallory Parker lost 6-2, 6-4. Garcia took the loss at fifth singles, as did Green in the No. 6 spot.
