NEW ORLEANS, La. – Mississippi University for Women tennis fell versus Dillard University in both the women's and the men's competitions. The Owl ladies lost by a score of 6-3 and the men 9-0, in the contests played at the Xavier University courts.
In women's doubles, The W tandems of
Nicole Rensink and Karna Garcia at No. 1, and
Maggie Taylor and
Mandy Ferguson at No. 2, both lost by 6-0, 6-0 scores to the Dragons. At No. 3 doubles,
Mallery Parker and
Terraline Green won by forfeit for the Owls.
Heading into singles down 2-1, The W lost at Nos. 1-4, with
Sarah Kackley,
Karen Calzadilla, Parker and Green, respectively, absorbing the setbacks. Ferguson, at No. 5, and
Emma Potter, at No. 6, both received forfeit wins for MUW.
The Owl men found the going tough against DU, as well, after Dillard swept the three doubles matches. In singles, MUW sent its six singles players –
Mikey Duncan,
Sam Yarborough, Victor Gomez,
Kory Scales, Jacob Vickers and Zavier Minor – into action, but all fell to the Dragons in straight sets.
