Box Score 2 LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Mississippi University for Women tennis teams opened their 2022-23 campaign on the road on Wednesday. Both the Owls' women's and men's teams lost by 9-0 scores to the Scots.
The MUW women returned three starters from last year senior
Terraline Green (4 singles), along with sophomores
Sarah Kackley (1 singles) and
Mallory Parker (4 singles). Transfer Sophomore
Macie Manasco (2 singles) - from Holmes Community College - was joined by freshmen
Kelis Griffin (6 singles) and
Magee Etheridge (5 singles).
The Owls Women had several hard-fought matches and The W Head Coach
Daniel Talley felt very encouraged by the overall play of his girls. "This season has a long way to go," Talley said. "I am eager to watch their growth."
MUW's men also returned three starters from 2021-22. The trio includes seniors
Sam Yarborough (1 singles),
Allen Lewis (2 singles), and Kris McGowan (6 singles). Talley's troops also started three freshmen in
Lucas Suggs (3 singles),
Kaleb Webster (4 singles), and Carson McClung (5 singles).
Talley said of his new men's players: "I was really impressed with their effort and I know that today will provide valuable experience moving forward."
The W will next compete at Johnson University on Thursday (Sept. 15) at 2 p.m. Central Time.
