Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Owls nipped by Chargers, 70-69

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Despite having four players finish in double-digit scoring, Mississippi University for Women men's basketball could not hold off Southeastern Baptist College in a 70-69 home loss. The Owls (8-7) and Chargers (5-16) played a close match-up, featuring 12 ties and 14 lead changes.

The W led by six points – 67-61 -  with 2:50 left to play, after a Thomas Wright layup. But SBC would make the next three baskets (a three-ball and a pair of layups), while the Owls missed back-to-back three attempts, to go ahead 68-67.

Quintiyus Causey then made a beautiful driving layup with just 39 seconds remaining to put The W up, 69-68. The Chargers brought the ball upcourt and hoisted a shot from the paint with eight seconds left, with SBC's Omarion Carson grabbing the offensive rebound. Carson was then fouled by MUW's Brye Hopkins on the attempted put back, earning a pair of free throws, which he made both to put SBC on top, 70-69.

The W had one final opportunity with 2.4 seconds left, after the Chargers were called on a five-second call on an inbound try. However, a jumper by Causey clanked off the rim as time expired.

Hopkins led the Owls with 18 points on a 7-of-9 shooting night. Hopkins also shared high rebound honors with six caroms – all on offense – to go along with four assists, a block and two steals.

Causey finished with 15 points and three assists. Zeradjanin's line included 14 points, five defensive rebounds and three assists.

Post player Thomas Wright added 12 points, going 6-of-9 from the field. He also had six rebounds to his credit.

The W will next travel to Irving, Texas, to take on the University of Dallas (3 p.m.).
