Despite its struggles over the past two weeks, The W is tied for No. 8 in the most recent United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) rankings.
It somehow seems to be poetic justice that the Owls get back on the winning track by defeating Southeastern Baptist. After all, the losing streak started at the hands of the Chargers back on January 12 in Columbus, falling to the visiting SBC team, 70-69.
The W had no less than five individuals finish the evening in double-figure scoring. Junior post player
Thomas Wright led the way with a 24-point effort. He also had a team-leading eight rebounds.
Teammate
Shon Wright booked 14 points, all in the first half of play, as MUW took a 45-24 lead into the locker room.
Quintiyus Causey finished with 13 points.
Andrew Shepherd and
Tyson Smithey each chipped in 10 points to round out the quintet of double-digit scorers for The W.
Brye Hopkins tallied nine points and corralled four boards.
Chris Evans and
Dariun Doss each added four points, followed by
Milos Zeradjanin with three.
Josh Dukes and
Nathan Reed each had two points to round out the Owls' scorers.
The W will net be in action on Wednesday, Feb. 1 (7 p.m.) at Belhaven University.
