The W tennis rung up at Belhaven

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women tennis faced off versus Belhaven University on the road Wednesday afternoon, dropping both matches. The Owl women lost a narrow 5-4 decision, while the men were shutout, 9-0.

In the women's match, the Blazers took a 2-1 lead in the contest after the doubles matches. The two teams split the six singles contests for the final 5-4 score.

The big story of the day for The W was freshman Maggie Etheridge notching her sixth-consecutive win in singles play. Etheridge – operating out of the No. 4-singles slot, was a straight-set winner over BU's Lillian Williams, 6-4, 6-3. Etheridge has not lost a singles bout since the season opener last September at Covenant College.

Fellow frosh Macie Manasco also won in straight sets at the No. 3 position, 6-4, 6-0, over Lily Graec. The W took a forfeit win at No. 6 singles, as well.

At No. 2 singles, Karen Calzadilla split sets, dropping set one 6-4 and bouncing back to win set two, 6-2. Calzadilla came up short in the deciding third set, 10-7.

In the men's match, the Owls continued to struggle versus a strong schedule. The Blazer swept all three doubles bouts for an early 3-0 match lead.  In singles, BU won five of the six matches in straight sets.

Only at No. 4 singles did freshman Lucas Suggs – a product of Caledonia High School – force a third set. Suggs took set one, 6-4, versus BU's Jordan Paul. In set two, Paul was the 7-5 winner and also won the third set, 10-6.
