Box Score 2 LaGRANGE, Ga. – Mississippi University for Women tennis earned split results in its matches at LaGrange College. The Owls' women's squad took a commanding 8-1 victory, while the men dropped a 9-0 decision.
The W women were very close to imposing a 9-0 blanking on the Panthers, losing only a hotly-contested match at No. 1 doubles, 9-7. MUW went on to take both Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. At No. 2, the tandem of
Audrey Foreman and
Kelis Griffin won by an 8-6 count, with
Mallory Parker and
Macie Manasco dominating at No. 3 pairs, 8-1.
MUW swept five of the six singles bouts in straight sets. At No. 1 singles,
Karen Calzadilla earned a 6-0, 6-1 win. At second singles, the Owls'
Sarah Kackley split the first two sets, winning 6-4 and losing 3-6, before taking the deciding proset in the third, 10-6.
Freshman phenom
Maggie Etheridge, playing No. 3 singles, extended her personal singles win streak to eight matches. Etheridge took a 6-1, 6-0 victory.
At the Nos. 4-6 slots, Manasco (6-4, 6-0), Parker (6-2, 6-1), and Griffin (6-3, 6-3, all win in straight sets, respectively.
The W men had a tough assignment versus thr Panther men. LaGrange got off to a 3-0 start by sweeping doubles. LC swept the Nos. 1-4 singles bouts by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, before dropping No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
At sixth singles, freshman
Braxton Brown lost set one, 6-0, but battled back in the second set to win, 6-4. Brown would compete strong, but fell in the third set, 10-6.
