Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Owls can’t derail Huntingdon, 83-55

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The W men's basketball found the going rough on the road in a non-conference loss at unbeaten Huntingdon College, 83-55, at the Roland Arena. The Owls (2-6) were the victims of their own offensive lapses and a strong Hawks' (7-0) inside game.

In the opening stanza, both teams went through a nearly five-minute spell where it probably seemed as though the Grinch was in charge of the rims. After MUW's Ridge Harrison hit a jumper at 12:32, neither club would manage a made field goal until the Hawks made a layup at 7:44 left in the half.

Huntingdon would go on to carry a 35-25 advantage into the halftime locker room.

Unfortunately for MUW, it had another scoring dry spell to open the second half. The W managed to tally just four points in the first seven minutes of the second period, as Huntingdon's lead ballooned from 10 to 21 points (51-29).

MUW was not able to make up any ground the balance of the contest, dropping its second game in a row.

The Owls were out-rebounded by a margin of 38-28. The contributed to Huntingdon's 44-to-26 differential for points in the paint.

MUW was led in scoring by Eric Bass Jr.'s 11 points. Bass Jr. hit 4-of-5 from the field. He also pulled down three rebounds and dished off three assists.

Senior Dariun Doss and junior Tyson Smithey had nine and eight points, respectively. Smithey also chipped in three rebounds and a pair of assists.

Trent Walker and Harrison both booked seven points. Harrison hauled in three rebounds and Walker grabbed two caroms.

The W will play the second in a string of three-consecutive non-league bouts on Sunday (Dec. 15/2 p.m.), when it plays host to Millsaps College at Pohl Gym.
