Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women's tennis teams split with LaGrange College on Saturday, winning the women's bout, 9-0, and dropping the men's match, 8-1.
MUW's women (1-7) notched their first victory of 2023-24 by blanking the Panthers. The Owls won all three doubles contests convincingly, with
Karen Calzadilla and
Macie Manasco winning, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.
MUW's tandem of
Sarah Kackley and
Jaysa Whatley were 8-0 victors at No. 2 and
Maggie Taylor and
Mallory Parker took third doubles, 8-1.
That began the points avalanche for the Owl ladies. At No. 1 singles, Calzadilla lost her first set (6-2), but bounced back to win the next two (6-0, 10-4).
Winning at the Nos. 2-6 spots in straight sets were Kackley (6-1, 6-1), Manasco (6-0, 6-0), Whatley (6-0, 6-0), Taylor (6-1, 6-1), and Parker (6-0, 6-0), respectively.
For the MUW men (1-7),
Lucas Suggs won the Owls' lone team point at fifth singles. Suggs fought to a 6-4, 7-5 win over the Panthers' Conner Golden.
