Box Score 2 HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – Mississippi University for Women's tennis teams both scored non-conference wins on Saturday at Rust College. The Owls' men's team won by a 5-2 score, while the women swept the Bearcats, 7-0.
The MUW men opened its match by winning two-of-three doubles matches, to gain the team point in pairs play. Both were convincing victories, as
Lucas Suggs and
Weston Petty won by a 6-2 score at the No. 2 position, followed by a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles from
Allen Lewis and
Jasper Poag.
In singles play, Suggs won a 6-1, 6-2 decision at the No. 2 slot. MUW then ran the table in the Nos. 4-6 singles matches, with wins coming from
Tyler Bailey (6-0, 6-2), Poag (6-0, 6-0), and Lewis (6-0, 6-0), respectively.
In the women's bout, the Owls took control in the doubles bouts and never looked back. At No. 1 doubles,
Macie Manasco and
Jaysa Whatley were 6-0 victors.
Maggie Taylor and
Audrey Foreman took a 6-2 win at No. 2, with
Davianna Brent and
Alexis Woods earning the 6-0 decision at No. 3 doubles.
Singles proved to equally dominated by The W ladies, with all ending in straight-set victories and the Bearcats winning a total of just six games.
Manasco (6-1, 6-0), Whatley (6-0, 6-0), and Taylor (6-0, 6-1) were the winners at the Nos. 1-3 slots. Foreman (6-3, 6-0), Brent (6-0, 6-1), and Woods (6-0, 6-0) came out on top at Nos. 4-6 singles.
The MUW women will travel to Agnes Scott College on Tuesday (April 2). Both teams will be at Lane College on Thursday (Apr. 4)
