Box Score 2 MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The W tennis teams opened the Fall portion of the 2024-25 season by losing road matches at Huntingdon College. Both the Owls' women's and men's teams lost by identical 7-0 scores to the Hawks.
In the ladies' match, MUW was swept in all three doubles matches, giving the team point in pairs play to Huntingdon.
The Owls were then swept in straight sets in all six singles contests. At the No. 4 position,
Jaysa Whatley had a strong first set, losing 7-5, before dropping the second set, 6-0.
On the men's side, MUW had its back against the wall out of the gate by forfeiting third doubles. The W would lose both the Nos. 1 and 2 bouts, with
Tyler Bailey and
Jasper Poag slugging it out at second doubles in a 7-5 setback.
In singles, MUW was swept but did not go quietly. At first singles,
Paul Gaines split sets with HC's Owen Wheelock, each winning by 7-5 scores. Gaines would drop the third set, 10-1.
Then, at No. 5 singles,
Trevor Davis lost his first set, 6-2, but bounced back to take the second, 6-4. Davis was toppled in the third set, 10-6.
