Softball splits at Webster in regular season finale

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – With the No. 3 seed for the upcoming St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) post-season tournament already locked in, The W finished off the 2025 regular season by splitting its twice-postponed doubleheader at Webster University. The Owls (23-15/13-5 SLIAC) won the opener, 9-3, before dropping game two to the Gorloks (10-20/9-9 SLIAC), 3-2.

In game one, MUW built an 8-1 lead through three innings and never looked back. The Owls outhit Webster by a 12-to-5 margin.

Senior Anna Sandlin had the hot bat in the opener, going 2-for-4. Sandlin drove in four runs and scored once, as well.

Riley Phillips and Emilee Slade each went 2-for-4, as well. Phillips had a pair of doubles, drove in a run and drew a walk. Slade had an RBI and scored twice.

Lilly Harrison, hitting ninth in the order, went 2-for-4 as the Owls other multi-hit player. Harrison scored three of MUW's runs in the game, as well.

Bailey McClellan (1-0) tossed 6.0 innings to get her first decision of the year. McClellan scattered four hits, allowed an earned run, truck out three and walked just one Gorlok.

In the second game, both teams produced 10 hits and the lone extra-base knock was a Webster triple. The Gorloks plated a pair of runs in the third, but The W evened matters in the fifth thanks to RBI singles from Lynnzie Kennedy (1-2) and Rylie Grisham (1-4).

Webster got the walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh, 3-2.

Taylor Palmer went 2-for-3 to lead the Owls' offense.

Grisham, the starting pitcher, went 3.0 innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. Phallyn Clark (4-5) went the final 3.2 innings and took the loss. Each MUW pitcher registered two strikeouts.

The W will begin play in the SLIAC tournament with a first-round, play-in game on Tuesday (May 5) at Westminster College at 4:30 p.m.
