Box Score LAUREL, Miss. – In a town made famous by the HGTV show
"Home Town," where houses are refurbished by restoration couple Ben and Erin Napier, The W men's basketball did some demolition work of its own by plastering Southeastern Baptist College, 85-65, in a non-league contest. The Owls' (9-6) win over the Chargers (0-9) was their fourth in a row and seventh in its last nine outings.
The W trio of
Tray Huguley,
Devin McCaine, and
Tyler Shephard accounted for 68 (80 percent) of the Owls' scoring. The sophomore Huguley led MUW with a game-leading effort of 34 points. It was Huguley's 13th-conecutive game with double-figure scoring and ninth with 20-plus points (and fourth in a row).
Huguley also broke his own school record with 22 rebounds. It was also Huguley's ninth double-double of the season and fourth in a row.
McCaine finished the night with 21 points, giving him back-to-back 20-point efforts and double figures in 14-of-15 games as an Owl. McCaine canned a pair of three-pointers and went 5-for-7 from the free throw line.
Shephard scored 13 points and had a team-leading three baskets from beyond the arc.
Trent Walker and
Joe Haze Austin each added six points.
Mal Stansfield chipped in three points and
Ayden McDeavitt two, to round out MUW's scoring.
The W will return to SLIAC play at home on Thursday (Jan. 15/7:30 p.m.) by hosting Principia College at Pohl Gym.
