CLINTON, Miss. – The W cross country teams got in the final meet before St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) championships in two weeks, by running at the Mississippi Christian Watson Collegiate Classic on Friday morning. The Owls men's team was 27th in the 8-kilometer race, with the women finishing 29th in the 6K event.
The highlight for MUW came in the men's 8K, where sophomore
Jarvis Sellers completed the course in a school-record time of 29:05.5 minutes. That crushed the previous mark of 29:40.0 by Joshua Gonsalves in 2022 and was Sellers' first sub-30 minute 8K effort of his career.
Sellers was 139th out of the talented 257-runner field.
The balance of The W lineup included
Christian Chipilipili (221st/33:37.9), Noel Kelum (223rd/33:46.6),
Welton Davidson (244th/38.03.0), and I'
Monn Hill (245th/38:09.4).
In the women's six-kilometer race, as has been the fact in every MUW women's cross country race the past four seasons, it was senior
Hannah Owens pacing then Owls' pack. Owens finished in a clocking of 25:45.4 minutes. That was good for 88th place out of 214 competitors.
The balance of The W women's roster included
Cassidy Talley (206th/37:42.3), Jalyn Casey (207th/37:49.4),
Ketu'rah Johnson (209th/38:08.3), and
Alaina Mathis (212th/39:43.6).
