The win was the first as a college coach for MUW's
Hayden Embry.
The W men began the match by collecting the doubles point, thanks to wins at both one and two pairs play. At first doubles, the MUW duo of
Jorge Ortiz and
Josh Cooper won by a score of 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker). The second doubles tandem of
Juan Garcia and
Marcos Fernandez made short work of their Bearcats' foes, 6-0, and put the hosts up 1-0 on the scoreboard.
In singles,
Alvaro Bardales earned a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. The win improved Bardales' singles record to 3-0 this season.
Garcia, playing No. 2 singles, picked up his first victory as an Owl with a straight-set win, 6-1, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Fernandez's 6-1, 6-1 win gave MUW four team points and assured the match victory.
(With both teams having already played one exhibition match versus Southwest Mississippi Community College earlier in the day, the squads elected to suspend the remaining matches in progress).
On the women's side, it was sophomore
Alaina Mathis picking up her team's lone win. Mathis won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. She is now 2-0 for the 2025-26 campaign.
