COLUMBUS, Miss – The W swept the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Player of the Week honors for golf, with senior
Sara Grace Ramey (Moundville, Ala.) taking the women's award and junior
Collin Jones (Lake Charles, La.) cited for the men.
Both MUW squads competed in the LeTourneau University Crossing Creeks Invitational last Monday and Tuesday (March 9-10) in Longview, Texas.
Ramey led the Owls women's squad to a fifth-place finish as a team in a stacked field. After a slow start on day one with a 90, Ramey fired a 77, which gave her a composite score of 167, and 16th place.
Ramey was the only golfer not from perennial NCAA III powers California Lutheran, East Texas Baptist, or host LeTourneau to place in the top-20 of the individual results.
Jones fired rounds of 72-70-72, for a 4-over par score of 214 for his 54 holes, as MUW's team finished third (and was just one stroke behind second-place LeTourneau). Jones was sixth in the strong field of 84 individual competitors, where just three shots separated second from sixth places.
Jones is a transfer to the Owls' program from NCAA Division I Nicholls State University.
