JACKSON, Miss. – The W track and field teams traveled south to compete in the Belhaven Invitational on Saturday afternoon in a non-team scoring meet. The Owls managed to produce a pair of event winners and set four school records.
Both event wins came in the women's competition and both produced MUW records, as well. The first was from junior distance specialist
Hannah Owens, who won the 5,000-meter run. Owens, running in her first meet of the season, topped her own MUW record with a clocking of 20:11.94 minutes, more than 17 seconds faster than her previous best (20:29.51).
In the women's javelin, throws specialist Arie'Onna McCallum also surpassed her own previous record (35.27m) with a winning toss of 35.96 meters at Belhaven. McCollum was also fifth in both the women's discus and hammer throw.
Other top performers on the women's side included a second place from
Ariella Jones in the long jump (5.25m), a second from
Hali Sinegal in the triple jump (10.51m), and a third by
Brooklyn Kelley in the shot put (10.94m).
