Owls softball stopped twice at #9-ranked Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -  The W softball played its final tune-up games before the start of its St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) slate, dropping a road doubleheader at NCAA Division III No. 9-ranked Huntingdon College. The Owls (5-10) fell to the Hawks (19-4) by scores of 9-1 and 8-0, both called in the fifth inning by the run rule.

In game one, MUW managed just two singles. Leadoff hitter Gillion Eaves (1-3, run) and nine-hole batter Avery Johnston (1-2) had the Owls' knocks versus HC. Freshman Trinity Garvin (1-2) took the loss from the circle, allowing eight runs, just four of which were earned due to three Owls' errors, in her 1.2 innings of work, including a seven-run second inning by Huntingdon. Rachel Etheridge threw the final 2.1 frames and restored order, allowing just one run to the potent Hawks' bats.

In the second game, HC tallied two in the first inning, four in the second, and one run in the third, before ending matters with a walk-off run in the fifth. Phallyn Clark (1-3) went 3.0 innings in absorbing the loss. Clark was charged with seven runs, six earned, and 10 hits allowed. She had one strikeout. Kaylee Crawford permitted a single run in 1.2 innings of relief..

Shortstop Addison Owen (2-2) had two of MUW's three hits in the nightcap. Garvin (1-2), serving as the designated hitter in game two, had her team's only extra-base hit of the day, with a leadoff double in the top of the second.
