STARKVILLE, Miss. - The W track and field teams spent Thursday through Saturday (March 26-28) competing right up the road at the Mississippi State University Bulldog Alumni Relays, and returned to Columbus with three new school records. The meet – featuring predominantly NCAA Division I competition – was a non-scoring team meet, as the Owls produced one new school mark on each of the three days.
On Thursday, it was MUW newcomer
James Nesby extending his own mark in the men's hammer throw. Nesby is the first MUW competitor to attempt the event and continued to push the hammer record upward. At the MSU meet, Nesby had a throw of 34.17 meters, blasting past the 30.87m record he established just last week by nearly 11 feet.
On Friday afternoon, the record effort for The W came on the women's side of the action, in the long jump. Freshman
Ariella Jones hit a leap of 5.66 meters, bettering her own record of 5.46m set two weeks ago at the Mississippi College Opener. She also earned an eighth-place finish in a talented field of 31 jumpers.
Men's high jumper
Malachi Morgan also had a good effort on Friday. While he did not surpass his own school record in the high jump, Morgan finished fifth, out of 15 competitors, at a height of 2.01 meters.
On Saturday, sophomore transfer
Nick Martin provided the MUW highlight with his new men's javelin throw record of 46.37 meters, which he accomplished on his very first attempt. Martin wrested the Owls' javelin record from current teammate
Noel Kellum, had gone 46.29m in 2025.
