EUREKA, Ill. – The W softball enjoyed another productive offensive day, sweeping a St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) doubleheader at Eureka College by scores of 16-6 and 18-3 (5 innings). The Owls (13-10) improved to 8-0 in the SLIAC, the only unbeaten team in league games, with the twin killing over the Red Devils (3-15, 3-5 SLIAC).
"Away trips can be hard and long," MUW Head Coach
Rebecca Oldham said, after also playing at Lyon College (Ark.) on Friday. "But this team rolled with it. One of the biggest focuses I have is for us to stay in the game and set the tone; try to win every inning. These girls don't give up. They battle through adversity and stay in the game no matter what."
The W bats were in full force, with the team scoring in 10 of the 12 innings played for the day. In the doubleheader, MUW hitters were a combined 32-for-67 (.478), with the 34 runs scored, four doubles, a triple, three home runs, and 28 runs batted in. Owls drew 15 walks, as well.
No less than five starters finished the pair of games batting .500 for the day. Freshman
Trinity Garvin led the assault by going an aggregate 6-for-7 (.857). She scored six runs and drove in two, as well.
Junior shortstop
Addison Owen continued her hot hitting with a 6-for-9 day (.667), raising her season batting average to a team, and SLIAC, leading .526. Against Eureka, Owen had a pair of doubles, drove in five runs, and scored six more.
Sophomore designated hitter
Brooklyn Rhodes was 3-for-5, with three runs and three RBI.
Avery Johnston and
MC Brown both were 3-for-6 (.500).
However, Brown got the most out of her three hits, with all three being home runs. She went deep twice in game 1, becoming only the third Owls' player to have two homers in one game (joining Makalyn Cawley in 2023 and teammate Rhodes in 2025). Brown also had a grand slam in game 2, on her way to a 10-RBI total for the afternoon.
From the circle,
Rachel Etheridge (3-0) got the win in the first game with 4.2 innings of four-hit, one-run, relief work. The game two winner was Garvin, who tossed the complete 5.0 inning, run-rule, victory.
