Owls golf teams fare well in recent matches

COLUMBUS, Miss. -  The W's women's and men's golf teams may have traveled to different locations, but both had good results. The Owls women's team placed second at the Preview at Timbergate on Saturday and Sunday (April 11-12), while the men's squad was fourth in a highly-competitive Cochran Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday (April 13-14).

The MUW ladies finished 10 shots out of first place as a team at the Timberlake Country Club course, after trailing by just two strokes on day one. Heidelberg University won the event.

Individually, The W was led by junior Ashley Estabrook. Estabrook went 72-90=162, good for third place in the tourney and just one stroke out of a runner-up finish.

Senior teammate Sara Grace Ramey was close behind, firing rounds of 77-86=163 and finishing tied for fourth place. Newcomers Addi Campbell (87-82=169) and Isabel Velasquez (81-90=171) also garnered top-10 finishes, placing eighth and ninth, respectively.

Lyndsey Reimsnyder was 11th in the final standings, carding scores of 88-93=181 for her 36 holes.

The MUW men traveled to Cordova, Tennessee, for Rhodes College's Cochran Collegiate at the Colonial Country Club. The Owls finished behind NCAA III No.-9 ranked Illinois Wesleyan (886), who ran away with the event, but were right on the heels of No. 41-ranked Rhodes (915), and Centre College (918), with a team aggregate of 920.  The W did place ahead of NCAA III No.-47 ranked (and SLIAC mate) Lyon College in ninth place at the 10-team tournament.

Senior Cameron James, the Owl men's team's lone holdover from its back-to-back SLIAC championship and NCAA III playoff team roster, had his best outing of the season. James tied for fifth place in the loaded, 61-player field. James' rounds included 73-74-78=225.

Fellow Owl, and sophomore, Alexandre Thery (75-76-76=227) also produced a top-10 finish by tying for seventh place.

Junior Bryce Denley (78-81-74=233) was The W's biggest "mover" in the third and final round, jumping 16 places, and finishing in a tie for 18th.

Juniors Nicklaus Ledbetter (80-80-79=239/t.30th) and Collin Jones (88-77-84=249/t.50th) rounded out MUW's lineup for the tourney.
