COLUMBUS, Miss. - The W women's tennis rolled up a pair of fall-season wins on Saturday. The Owls (2-1) topped both Mississippi Valley State University, 5-2 at the Garrett Courts, and Huntingdon College, 4-3 at the Magnolia Tennis Center.
Against the NCAA Division I MVSU squad, it was MUW's No. 1 doubles tandem of
Laura Camara and
Orianna Roldan providing the highlight of the match. The Camara-Roldan duo crushed the Delta Devils No. 1 pair of Ruramai Nyamakura and Claudia Lopez, 6-0, to set the tone for the day.
Versus fellow NCAA III foe Huntingdon College, the Owls' win snapped a five-match losing streak against HC. It was the team's first win versus the Hawks in nearly four years (the last MUW win over Huntingdon came on September 24, 2022).
MUW started the match by winning two of three matches of doubles to earn a team point. Camara and Roldan won at first doubles, 6-3. Then,
Bailey Flynn and
Elizabeth McCool took a 6-4 victory at second doubles.
The Owls would then secure the team win by taking the Nos. 1, 2, and 4 singles matches in straight sets. Camara took down HC's Dalyce Sanders, 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Roldan then secured a convincing win at No. 2 singles over Emma Rose, 6-3, 6-1. Flynn followed suit at fourth singles over Skylar White, 6-4, 6-3, to give The W enough points to lock down the team victory, 4-3.
