Mississippi University for Women announced Dave Beyer as the University's Director of Athletic Communications in August of 2021.
Beyer oversees the communications needs for the Owls' 17 sport, NCAA Division III intercollegiate program. Additionally, he has served The W Athletics as the co-coordinator for the annual fund-raising golf outing, organized and helped institute the school's first-ever Athletics Hall of Fame in 2023, and was highly involved in the writing, editing, and organization of both the Year 2 and Year 3 reports that helped the University gain full NCAA III membership status in 2023-24.
Prior to coming to Columbus, Beyer - a native of Whittier, California - spent the previous two years at Oklahoma Panhandle State University. Before that, he spent seven years at McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, where he helped oversee the War Hawks’ transition to NCAA Division III.Â
Beyer has worked at every level of collegiate athletics. He spent two years at NCAA Division I Mercer University (Ga.) from 2010-11 and has spent more than 30 years of his career working for NCAA III schools and conferences In addition to OPSU, McMurry, and Mercer, Beyer's work stops have included Benedictine University (Ill.), Rockford College (Ill.), Loras College (Iowa), Aurora University (Ill.), Cal State-San Bernardino (Calif.), Rancho Santiago Community College (Calif.) and Biola University (Calif.). In 2006, he served as the host communications director for the NCAA Division II Women's LaCrosse Championships and the NCAA III Track & Field Championships (two weeks apart). Beyer considers these events as "the highlight" of his career. And why not, considering he had undergone successful surgery for colon cancer in November of 2022 and was having chemo treatments concurrent with his successfully administering the communications operations for both championship events?Â

During his career, Beyer has earned more than 78 regional and national awards for writing and publications. In 2011, he received his 25-year award from CoSIDA for a quarter-century of service to the athletics

communications profession.
