NEW ALBANY, Miss. – The W women's tennis team traveled to New Albany, Miss. to take on in-state foe Blue Mountain College, dropping the match 8-0 to the Toppers.
Blue Mountain was able to grab an early lead by sweeping the doubles competition. Sandy Bonuchhi and Laura Kate Inman paired to take on the Toppers Mariana Alvarez and Tatiana Quinonez for the first head-to-head. The Owls were able to pull two points but dropped the match 8-2.
In the second doubles matchup of the day, Blue Mountain's Attie Finley and Mattie Mills blanked Owls duo Emma Potter and Nicole Rensink 8-0 for the Toppers second points of the day.
The Owls were unable to field a third doubles pair to forfeit the point to Blue Mountain.
In the singles competition, it was much of the same with the Toppers taking all five points to claim the victory.
If weather permits, the Owls will play their first home match of the season when they take on Marion Military Institute on Friday, March 29. The first serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
