Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Owls women’s soccer tipped by Ozarks in home finale

COLUMBUS, Miss. -  The Mississippi University for Women women's soccer team as unable to find the back of the net in its final home game of the season, losing to the University of the Ozarks, 5-0, at the Lowndes County Soccer Complex. The loss dropped the Owls to 6-9 overall.

It was also the final home appearance for the five graduating seniors on The W's squad. The quintet includes: Sarah Gilliland (Branden, Miss.), Megan Brown, Picayune, Miss.), Leah Anderson (Leyland, U.K.), Hannah Helms (Southaven, Miss.) and Sarah Havens (Hurley, Miss.)

While The W was out-shot – 23-8 - by the Eagles, the hosts made the most of their attempts. MUW put seven of its shots – 88 percent – directly on-goal for the afternoon. Unfortunately for the Owls, all were turned away by Ozarks' goaltender.

MUW net-kinder Gilliland booked 11 saves versus a potent Ozarks attack. Gilliland had eight of her stops in the second half, alone.

Anderson had three shots, all on-frame, for The W offense. Shelby Harrington put to-of-three shots on-goal, as well.

Helms and Adrianna Parsons each had one shot-on-goal, as well.

The Eagles led 3-0 after one half and added a pair of goals in the second stanza.

The W (6-9) will close out its season next Friday (Oct. 29) at Belhaven University. Kickoff is slated for 5:30 p.m. in Jackson.
