COLUMBUS, Miss. – For the second time this season, the Mississippi University for Women women's basketball team was defeated by NCAA III #20/23-ranked Rhodes College, losing by a 77-53 count at Pohl Gym. The Lynx also defeated the Owls in the season opener back on November 12 in Memphis.
The Owls never led versus the nationally-ranked Rhodes (8-2) team. RC scored the first seven points of the game and led 25-6 after one quarter and 44-19 at the intermission.
Rokila Wallace led The W with 17 points. Wallace was 6-for-18 from the field and made good on 5-of-7 free throws. She also hauled in seven rebounds.
Christiana Harris had a double-double game of 16 points and 10 rebounds. Harris made 3-of-10 from the floor and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe. She dished off a game-high five assists.
Junior forward
MG Chamberlain was the Owls' third double-figure scorer, netting 13 points on a 5-for-12 shooting effort.
Neither team earned style points, combining for 44 turnovers (23 by the Lynx). The W had 11 steals, four each by
Jasmine Shaw and
Hannah Duran.
The difference in the contest proved to be inside, where Rhodes out-rebounded the Owls by a 51-35 margin. Likewise, the Lynx dominated points in the paint, 52-18.
Shaw had five points and
Cassidy Murphy two points as the only other Owls to score.
