Women's Tennis Drops Season Opener

LOOKOUT, Ga. – The Owls women's tennis team lost to Covenant College on Friday afternoon, 6-0, in Lookout, GA after the match was cut short due to inclement weather. The W opens the season 0-1 after today's season opener.

The Owls lost the doubles points to start the match, unable to take any of the matches on the doubles court. The W pairings lost each of the doubles competition 8-0.

Covenant College used its early momentum to fuel its single matches, overpowering the Owls in two straight sets on three singles court. Junior Nicole Rensink of The W dropped the first singles match, falling to Madelyn Savage on the first court in a 6-0, 6-0 decision.

Newcomer Karina Garcia dropped the next match. The freshman slumped to Covenant's Anna Logan in a 6-0, 6-1 decision to pick up the Owls only point in a finished competition.
Before the rain, the two teams were able to finish just one more match. The Scots ended the match, clinching the singles competition on the sixth court when Laney Beckwith defeated Terraline Green, 6-0, 6-0.

"Terrible weather and extended delays hampered the return of MUW women's tennis," said head coach Daniel Talley. "We hope to beat the rain and shine in our next competition."

Because of the weather, the men's team were unable to play and will have a delayed start to the season.

If the weather permits, the Owls men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Johnson University – Tennessee.
