Volleyball Sees Improvement at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – The W volleyball team fell to Mississippi College in a 3-0 (25-10, 25-7, 27-25) sweep Thursday evening inside A.E. Wood Coliseum.

"We were finally able to get into our groove during the third set and competed well," said head coach Brooke Carter. "At the end of the match yesterday, we talked about adjusting our block, and I thought the team did a really good of implementing what we had talked about. I enjoyed watching our team grow each time we step on the court. Luckily, we get to do it three more times tomorrow!"

The Owls saw a vast improvement in hitting, seeing a positive hitting percentage for the first time this season. Iyana Canada led the effort with four kills, while seniors Tori Weir and Loren Schmitt added two each. Madison Lamon was the go-to setter for The W tonight for six assists.

At the net, Weir tied newcomer Maggie Ledbetter with two, and Taniya Cavett added one.

Defensively, veteran defensive specialist Schmitt covered the floor to lead the Owls with nine digs.

The W is now 0-3 on the season will look for its first win of the season during tomorrow's tri-match. Owls volleyball will host Itawamba Community College and Covenant College on Friday, Feb. 26. The first serve for match one is set for 2 p.m.
