LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The Owls women's volleyball team put up a tremendous defensive front against the competitive NCAA Division II opponent University of West Alabama. The W continually forced the Tigers into rally after rally in Wednesday night's match. Despite the effort, the Owls struggled to place attacks and fell 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-8) inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.
"I was really proud of the adjustment we made on defense tonight," said head coach Brooke Carter. " We spent the entire practice yesterday working on defense, and we went out there and applied the things we worked on. Now, we just have to build from there. I think once we can retain the information we learn from week to week, they will be surprised tat the change on the scoreboard."
The bright spot was indeed the defense, and sophomore
Lacey Evans led the charge. The Jasper, Ala. native racked up 15 digs on the night and one block.
Loren Schmitt assisted in the effort with 10, while Briana Huerta-Ramierez added six.
Newcomer
Ricki-Jill Burrough headed the offensive effort with five kills, and
Madison Lamon led in assist with nine.
The Owls will be back in action on Friday, March 12, when they travel to Hanceville, Ala, for a rematch against Wallace State Community College. The first serve is set for 5 p.m.
