PULASKI, Tenn. – The W volleyball team fell to Martin Methodist in a 3-0 (25-9, 25-15, 25-20) sweep on Thursday night inside the Curry Christian Life Center on the campus of Martin Methodist College.
The Owls started slow but improved as the game progressed for a close final set. The W worked hard offensively to see a .139 hitting percentage, a season-best.
Maggie Ledbetter led the effort with eight kills on two errors.
Evelyn Pruitt stepped in as starting setter in the absence of senior
Madison Lamon. She recorded nine assists in her first official start, one more than fellow Owls
Camryn Johnson.
Lacey Evans led the Owls with eight digs on the net's defensive side, and
Iyana Canada and
Taniya Cavett recorded two and one blocks, respectively.
"We are continuing to improve each game," said head coach Brooke Carter. "We were finally able to get some consistency on our front row attacking. We did a much better job of minimizing our hitting error. Now, we just have to work on jumping out and being ready to play in the first set instead of waiting until the third."
Owls volleyball will be back on the road tomorrow, Friday, March 5, to take on fellow USCAA-institution Judson College. The junior varsity match will start at 5 p.m., and the varsity match will follow.
