JACKSON, Miss. – The Owls volleyball team went 0-2 in dual matches against Belhaven University Thursday night. The W falls to 2-9 on the season, dropping the first match 3-0 (25-27, 25-21, 25-13) and match two3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-13).
"We started strong tonight but just ran out of gas towards the end," said head coach Brooke Carter. "I believe we were very evenly match and we are looking forward to competing against them next week."
In match one, sophomore guard
Iyana Canada led the way with eight kills on 18 swings. Senior
Loren Schmitt added two aces to the effort, and Camyrn Johnson put up 11 assists.
Briana Huerta-Ramierez went down for 11 digs on the defensive side, while Schmitt and
Lacey Evans added eight each.
In match two, Canada and
Tori Weir recorded four kills each, and
Madison Suggs added two aces. Johnson again stepped up in the setter position for a career-high 14 assists.
Suggs led the defense with 10 digs, and Huerta-Ramirez added nine.
The Owls will have one night to reflect and refocus as they travel to Longview, Texas, to face LeTourneau University on Friday, April 2. The dual matches are set to begin at 5 p.m.
