Softball Dominates in Round One Win at SCWS

DUBOIS, Pa. - Today, W Softball secured its first win at the Small College World Series in Du Bois, PA. The Owls faced Penn State Du Bois, who came into the tournament with a 25-12 record and took them down 8-1 in a full seven-inning match. 

Facing off against Du Bois' ace pitcher, Lizzy Scott, the Owls gathered 15 hits overall, with 8 runs and 6 RBIs. Multiple Owls had a great outing, led by Maddy Suggs, who went 3 for 3 at the plate with one RBI.

Marley Poole (2 for 3) and Madison Crosby (3 for 4) collected doubles and an RBI for Crosby. Iyana Canada, Megan Cummins, and Jasmine Shaw were all able to swipe a base, helping their team secure their first win of the tournament. Maddy Suggs and Megan Cummins both collected triples in the game, Suggs' first of the season and Cummins' third. 

While normally a double threat, Mackenzie Denton, the pitcher from Pontotoc, MS, was able to focus on her time in the circle today. Denton faced 29 batters in the game, pitching all 7 innings against Du Bois, only allowing one run on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts. 

The Owls will play again tomorrow, taking on Saint Mary of the Woods, who came into the tournament with a 17-16 record. The game will begin at 3 PM ET/ 2 PM CT and will be live-streamed from SmallCollegeWorldSeries.com, where you can also find all the latest tournament updates.
