Thomas Wright and
Shon Wright – no relation – combined for 29 points and 15 rebounds in leading their team to a 77-58 home win over Southeastern Baptist College. The Owls' win over the Chargers at Pohl Gym was the squads' second "W" of the season.
"We hadn't played in 20 days due to various reasons," MUW Head Coach
Dean Burrows said. "Coming into this game, and with that being the case, I am very proud of how our guys have gone about their business when it came to preparation and focusing on controlling what we can."
Thomas Wright, playing in just his eighth game since joining the Owls, was once again a dominant force inside. He converted 9-of-10 shots from the floor, on his way to a game-leading 19 points. He narrowly missed a double-double by also corralling nine rebounds in 19 minutes on the court.
For the year,
Thomas Wright is shooting 77.1 percent from the field (54-70) and averaging 15.1 points per game. Averaging just over 24 minutes played per game, he has also garnered 5.6 rebounds per game on his stat line this season.
Shon Wright added 10 points and six rebounds for his part. He hit 3-of-5 overall from the field, including draining 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. He pulled down six rebounds, as well, all on the defensive end.
In addition to the Wright's efforts, two other Owls finished the contest in double-figure scoring.
Trey Jackson and
Nathan Reed – both coming off of the MUW bench – finished the evening with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Jackson made good on a game-leading 3-of-5 from long range and was 5-of-12 shooting, overall.
Reed did his damage from the free throw stripe. Reed made a game-leading five charity tosses in six tries. He also grabbed five rebounds.
Milos Zeradjanin distributed an MUW season-best seven assists in another of his balanced efforts. Zeradjanin also scored eight points and, at 6'0", managed six rebounds for the Owls. He was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Ddallen Bailey matched Zeradjanin with eight points, hauling in four rebounds, as well. Four points from
Terry Coleman Jr., and two each from Quitiyus Causey and Kentarrius Davison, rounded out The W's scoring in the victory. Davison contributed five assists and three steals to The W's cause.
JaQuan Hines added three more blocked shots to his coffers versus SBC. On the year, Hines has amassed 26 "rejections".
MUW held a precarious 31-27 halftime lead against Southeastern Baptist. In the second segment, the Owls extended their wings and out-scored the Chargers by a 46-31 margin, as the team pulled away to the big win.
"
Nathan Reed did a good job coming in off the bench by staying ready," Burrows added. "He had some very good practices coming into last night's contest and he carried that over from the practice court to gameday. Milos (Zeradjanin) and Ken (Kentarrius Davison) did a great job, combined, of taking care of the ball and moving the ball."
"Now we continue to focus on working to change our best daily and build on our habits."
