JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi University for Women's baseball team won its second-consecutive game, earning a 4-3 walk-off win over Edgewood College (Wis.) at the Millsaps Tournament. With the victory, the Owls improved to 2-6 on the season.
After the Eagles had tied the game with a run in the top half of the ninth, it set the stage for some heroics by The W. Former Caledonia High School player
Thomas Tucker led off the Owls at-bats by drawing a walk. With one down,
Tanner Evans was hit by a pitch. An Edgewood pitching change yielded a similar result, as
Joel Estabrook was also hit by a pitch to load the bases.
That brought
Blake Estabrook to the plate with the game on the line. Estabrook would line a 0-1 pitch through the left side of the infield, allowing Tucker to trot home with the game-winning run and setting off the celebration from The W's dugout.
No Owl had more than one hit in the game. Tucker was 1-for-3 with a double - the only extra-base hit among the five hits from MUW batters - and two runs batted in.
The W pitchers were solid once again in the win. Starter
Joel Estabrook went 4.0, permitting three hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out nine Eagles.
Brandon Fenimore threw 3.2 shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out four batters.
Tyler Temple got the victory with 1.1 innings of relief work. Temple did not allow a hit and gave up one unearned run in the top of the ninth.
